Sometimes we just need to relax and enjoy a simple scene, with big compositional skill development. Framing in a focal point with dark colors has been something that landscape masters have done for centuries. In this lesson I’m going to give you the first steps in developing those skills.
In this lesson we will frame in a pretty cumulus cloud in the distance with darker clouds, a darker foreground and dark trees on each side. This simple composition brings your eye to the center of the canvas where the bright cloud sits. Not only do objects play a part in framing in a composition, but so do values.
Learn how to paint this painting from start to finish, and develop your value and compositional skills. I’ll show you each step in the process.
