Ever wonder how I pack my bag for a painting workshop?

Here is how I pack my bag to get ready for a painting workshop!

What palette do you use?

Tim uses a Masterson palette with gray palette paper pads as a liner.

Troubleshooting lesson problems

If you’re having difficulty viewing or playing lessons, the most common solution to correct the issue is to clear your Internet browsing history (including Cookies), restart your browser, and then log back into the site to view the lesson.

How can I make the branches of my Misty Forest paintings look better?

To get realistic branches, you’ll want to thin your paint out with water first. Then use a liner brush. A long liner brush is ideal because it holds more paint and you can pull longer lines with it. Apply less pressure and be free with your hand as you get toward the end of the branches. Let them bend and take small angles so they look more natural. You pretty much want to use the brush like it’s a pencil or pen. The more pressure you apply the thicker the line will be, the less pressure the thinner the line.

Where can I find a list of workshops you are offering?

To view Tim Gagnon’s current and future workshop schedule, visit www.timgagnon.com and click the Workshop button at the top of the page.

What level of painting ability do I need to attend your in-person painting workshops?

Tim’s workshops are for painters of all abilities. He has a very down-to-earth teaching style that incorporates easy-to-understand terminology with easy-to-learn brushstroke patterns that allow anyone from a beginner to an advanced painter to grasp what he’s trying to convey and progress their painting skills.

Do you have a library of reference free photos to give me ideas for paintings?

Yes. Visit the royalty-free Photo Reference Library at http://www.timgagnon.com/resources/photo-reference-library/ where you can use any image you see towards your paintings and artwork. Note: You must be logged in to access this page.

Can I use oil paints in place of acrylics for your acrylic lessons?

Definitely! A large number of our students substitute oil paints for acrylics and still successfully complete the lessons by adding a small amount of the medium Liquin Original by Winsor & Newton™ to their oil paints. Liquin Original allows your paint to dry faster and improves the flow of your brush strokes.

No. I paint directly on the canvas prints when I hand embellish.

Do you have any color charts for your paintings?

The following are direct links to color charts I have created to allow you to more easily match the colors I create during my lessons:

What varnishes do you use to seal your paintings and drawings?

I use Kamar Varnish by Krylon® to seal all my paintings. Normally, I apply two separate thin coats (waiting until dry between the coats) to my paintings. Along with great protection, I find it gives the paintings a slightly glossy look that really enhances the colors and details of the painting.

You can apply the varnish to acrylic and oil paintings as soon as they have dried to the point they are no longer tacky.

I use Krylon® Workable Fixitif to seal my drawings.
