About this lesson
This painting lesson is an acrylic tutorial that will take you through the following steps:
Sketching your composition – I will take you through rough sketching your composition. I’ll show you how I correct mistakes as I go and use negative space to make sure things line up and are in proportion.
Creating a foundation drawing with paint – Once we’ve completed our sketch on the canvas we will use some thin paint to make the drawing permanent so we have a great foundation to work from as we start our painting.
Layering and keeping loose – Once we start applying paint we want to keep loose, but keep some realism at the same time. I’ll show you the steps to take as we layer and create this fun flower arrangement from start to finish.
What you’ll need
Colors used: Alizarin Crimoson, Quinacridone Red (you can also replace that with magenta), Light Magenta (any pink will work), Naples Yellow, Cadmium Red Medium, Sap Green, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Titanium White
Canvas size: 11 X 14. I like to use stretched cotton canvas. If you prefer a different size, it would be best to keep within the ration (example 22 X 28).
Brushes: I mainly use a medium round brush, a medium flat brush, a liner brush and a small filbert. You may find you use different brushes to achieve a loose look, and that is completely acceptable!
Photo reference is included with the painting lesson. If you purchase a DVD, the photo can be found on the online version which you also have access to.
