Join me in painting a winter sunset sky painting. In this oil painting lesson I will take you through creating this brilliant shining sun, poking through cool winter clouds drifting through the sky. Learn how to layer your oil paints and use blending steps to smooth out edges to make your clouds look realistic. Learn how to create a hazy shine around the sun to make it look like its actually emitting light from the painting. You’ll love this technique, where we use contrast to make the sun look brilliant.

Colors Used: Radiant Turquoise (any turquoise will do), cerulean blue, radiant lemon yellow (cool yellow), raw umber, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium orange

Canvas Size: 10 X 30 (any long canvas should work well)

Medium Used: Lean Medium (50% cold pressed linseed oil/50% Mineral Spirits). You can also replace this medium with liquin original, or Neo megilp.

Brushes Used: Medium Filbert or Round, Small Pointed Round or filbert, large blending background brush with soft bristles
